She is in a mood. Depressed. Angry. Hurt. Hopeless. Confused about the future. She recalls her beloved grandmother once saying that you cannot be depressed if you are grateful. She recalls listening quietly to her and not responding. For once. Because she is outspoken, opinionated, headstrong just like Momma Ray. And she vehemently disagrees with her on that issue. Yes indeedy.
She is grateful. Very. She doesn't have many friends, but the few she has are true. Loyal. Intelligent. There when she needs them. Just like she is there when they need her. She loves her job. She loves her flat. See, Momma Ray, full of love. Full of gratitude. And yet . . .
She knows the blues will pass. But how can she chase them away sooner, rather than later. She sprained her ankle, so no running or even walking. Exercise has always been a panacea.
But how about setting her creativity free. How about sewing? She's been so busy the last few months that her machine is probably as glum as she is, ignored as it has been. That's it. She will sew.
She is going to see Motown Ballet next month. She smiles at the thought. That is what she needs to clean off her sewing table. The perfect dress. McCall 6044. From 1961. It channels the Supremes. Absolutely. And it's easy to sew. Fabulous!
And it will look scrumptious in the poppy sateen she purchased at Sawyer Brook a couple of months ago. Yes it will. Is there anything better than a coral wiggle dress to fight off the blues? Maybe so. But this will do for now.
And, yep, you can find this selection pattern at The Blue Gardenia. But you knew that, didn't you, cupcakes? Of course you did.
