Sewing Spaces: Want a Lady Grey pattern? Enter this contest! September 26, 2010 20:36 61 Comments
And, let me add, don't delay. Sarai, generous owner and talented designer of Colette patterns, has donated one Lady Grey pattern to celebrate Sewing Spaces and Gertie's sew-along. To enter, just leave a pithy comment about your favorite Sewing Space post. Aren't those rules easy to follow? Absolutely!
Contest ends at 12:01 PDT Thursday. This Thursday. September 30, 2010. Got that?
And don't forget to check back later today. Why, you ask? Because we're visiting Sarai's studio. Is your pulse racing in excitement? I hope so. I do.

Oh that coat is so gorgeous — what a great giveaway! Personally, I’m still swooning over Liesl’s sewing space.
Stephanie B on May 20, 2015 12:19
I LOVE this coat pattern and would enjoy sewing it up. I am really enjoying watching Gertie sew up the muslin. How to pick a favorite sewing space? I have taken a bit from each one and plan to tighten up my work space (which is in my dining room!). I do like the idea of scanning the patterns into the computer and having them available at the click of a mouse! I’m gonna look into incorporating this – my patterns are overflowing, even with being organized by type and size!
Samina on May 20, 2015 12:19
I drool over Kristy’s organization skills & the layout of her sewing space! While I have a dedicated craft room, it’s not nearly as neat hers is. Of course, Erica’s space is nicely organized too & I love Leisl’s large counter.
Asewingschooldropout.wordpress.com on May 20, 2015 12:19
That coat is beautiful! I really liked Leisl’s sewing space. I would give anything to have my own studio to work in.
Christi on May 20, 2015 12:19
I’ve been wanting this pattern for a while now and was very jealous of all the ladies who are doing Gertie’s sew along!
Anyway I really enjoy all the sewing spaces posts because I’m a bit of a sewing space…perv I suppose. All the machines, and patterns, and fabric, and oh my!
I guess I like The Selfish Seamstress post most of all. Probably because it’s the most like my own situation, where the only dedicated space I have is where I plop everything down.
Angelina on May 20, 2015 12:19
I love all the posts on here, mostly because I’m a bit of a voyeur. I like to see how people organize their things. Organizational porn! haha
Thanks for the chance to win!

I liked the glimpse you gave us into the Selfish Seamstresses space because it is proof that you can sew fabulous clothes without all of the props. And if you are the Selfish Seamstress, you can do it with sass!
Lori on May 20, 2015 12:19
ADORE the pattern, but who doesn’t! My favorite sewing space is my own, even though it’s tiny, and just a corner of the living room, and far from anyone’s dream space. But I made my daughter’s wedding dress in this tiny little space, so I love it.
Seemore-dreammore.blogspot.com on May 20, 2015 12:19
I loved Kristy’s space. Her expansive shelving, and the little touches like adorable matching chairs, hanging clip boards & giant measuring tapes! Fantastic. I’m envious of pretty much everyone’s giant self-healing mats (a girl can dream!).
I’d be SO excited to make a Lady Grey!

Ooh, I’m gonna say the upcoming visit to Sarai’s studio is my favorite!
Jill on May 20, 2015 12:19
I like Liesl’s studio and Gertie’s view. Both are so much nicer than the card table I set up in my grimy basement!
Laura on May 20, 2015 12:19
I loved Colette’s studio but what I loved most is her saying that an iron is her most helpful tool. I didn’t really press or iron ANYTHING when I first started sewing and it really made my results look half assed.
StitchBrawl on May 20, 2015 12:19
I am really enjoying the sewing spaces series! What a varied and wonderful assortment! I love getting a glimpse at other people’s spaces…helps me learn a little more about them and gives me ideas as I develop my own sewing space. They are all terrific, but my favorite might have to be the Selfish Seamstress. Her blog is one of the first I started following. I love her style and I appreciate the great results she gets without all the space and fancy tools. Very encouraging for someone learning to sew on a budget. It would be fun to see how her space evolves with her move.
purl2tog on May 20, 2015 12:19
I actually really love Collette’s sewing studio. I love the natural light, the artistic touches, and of course the purple couch! I think I would spend many hours there drinking tea and dreaming up cute outfits.
Tabitha on May 20, 2015 12:19
That coat is gorgeous. OK with that out out of the way I love Sarai’s windows and cutting table(my floor is just not cutting it any more). I love Liesl’s very tall shelves that would hold every thing of mine and then some. What I really love is the different ways people store their patterns its a great way to get ideas to tackle the mess the of patterns I have. Thanks for having this series its shows you how you can range from small to large sewing spaces and still make beautiful pieces.
Sinje on May 20, 2015 12:19
Thank you for this giveaway!
I must say that my favourite is Liesl’s studio, too; it looks very well organized (and much more so than mine)!
Katherine on May 20, 2015 12:19
I have too many favourites to pick just one! But what I have loved most is looking at what each blogger thinks is essential to their sewing, and as I’m still a beginner this has been really helpful. I’m going to get a good iron ASAP.
I love the Colette patterns but being 18 they’re completely out of my price range, so fingers crossed!
Liara on May 20, 2015 12:19
My favorite would have to be Liesel’s. She has everything put away but so easily accessible! I can’t stand clutter, but, because I share my sewing space with my two kids’ art stuff, a china cabinet that won’t fit anywhere else and the household computer, I’ve learned to live with it.
I wanted so badly to join the Lady Grey sewalong over at Gertie’s blog, but I knew I couldn’t keep up, but I would love to have the pattern to go at my own speed.
MietVdh on May 20, 2015 12:19
I particularly enjoyed reading about Gertie’s and the Selfish Seamstress’ sewing spaces, ‘cause I’ve been reading their blogs for a while now, and it’s nice to see where all their beautiful clothes have been created.
Stella on May 20, 2015 12:19
I have been dying to get my hands on this coat pattern.
I love the white brick from Colette. Of course all looks amazing compared to the 3 square feet I could eek out of my tiny apt.
Rebecca on May 20, 2015 12:19
I like Erica’s sewing space. I have the perfect winter white fabric for the Lady Grey.
Aunt Nina on May 20, 2015 12:19
I love the retro vibe in the Cupcake Goddess’ sewing studio.
Alma on May 20, 2015 12:19
Kristy of Lower Your Presser Foot did a great job with those simple wood shelves that anybody could make. And the fabric…oh my!
Dilliander on May 20, 2015 12:19
Yes, please count me in the Lady Grey draw. I’ve been contemplating joining Gertie’s sew-along but have been procrastinating as I already have several projects in progress. Winning would end my indecision! Selfish’s sewing space is the one I can identify with, but even selfish doesn’t have a cutting benchtop supported by two small step ladders in her lounge room. Little does she know how amazing this setup is for small spaces, and how much easier cutting and tracing patterns becomes with this odd but ergonomic furniture.
Steph on May 20, 2015 12:19
I’d love to make that coat! My favorite sewing space would be a mix between Liesl’s and Sarai’s. The fabric on Liesl’s shelves looked so inviting, and that looong cutting table is a dream. But that purple velvet couch and those white-washed walls in Sarai’s space are pretty sweet, and a little bit romantic.
Bree on May 20, 2015 12:19
I love the Oliver+S sewing space, totally organized and on display, just how I like mine!
Julie on May 20, 2015 12:19
I love the organization of Liesl’s sewing space. It is inspiring, to say the least. I am also in love with Sarai’s purple couch – what a sweet touch.
Thanks for the chance to win this pattern!
Signe on May 20, 2015 12:19
I think I loved the sewing space of Gabrielle of Sewing is Hard best.
Well, what I loved was her mannequin with the stuffed bra. Such a good idea, and such a fun picture.
Other than that I love, love, love how Sarai of Collette’s space looks. Especially the light.
And I’ve been following Gertie’s sew along and dream of sewing a Lady Grey along as well
Sara on May 20, 2015 12:19
Love that coat! I have to say that Kristy, of Lower Your Presser Foot has my favorite sewing space – so organized!
Serena on May 20, 2015 12:19
I love Sarai’s with all the lovely natural light, and I love Liesl’s, with her Janomes and her fabric stash, which looks quite decent to me. ;)
Margaret on May 20, 2015 12:19
I love Sarai’s sewing space. So laid-back comfy yet personalized at the same time!
Kathleen on May 20, 2015 12:19
I’m a big fan of Kristy’s sewing room. My god, look how organized everything is! It’s unbelievable and I’m jealous of her organizational skills. I wish I could have that kind of order in my sewing room, but alas, it’s chaos. :P
Clair McLaughlin on May 20, 2015 12:19
My absolute favourite coat pattern – gorgeous!
Juliette Williams on May 20, 2015 12:19
I would love to enter the comp. Sarai’s space got me instantly inspired. That couch is to die for – it just sings style. I also love that her sewing space is a bike ride away from home.
manu on May 20, 2015 12:19
Oh how I would love to have a special sewing room. I think I envy Sarai’s and Liesel’s sewing spaces the most
Jennifer M Brown on May 20, 2015 12:19
Hello Denise,
Your sewing blog is a new one for me to meander through, magnificent! Colette Patterns and Sarai’s work has my attention because I have developed and graded patterns over the years, self taught, except a high school class 20 years ago. As a dancer, it was extremely important to sew and costumes were the place where I owned the floor, my imagination, my fabrics, my own school dare I say. I am the humble owner of Under The Root and quarks, my studio is my life now.
After reading your sewing studio posts, the design and organization of Oliver+S+Liesl has me awestruck. Amazing how every one of the studios you featured consider the nooks and crannies to be most useful.
In the middle of the night, these moments still astound and delight me with what women are accomplishing in their lives.
Beautiful!
Love and Bugs,
Jennifer M. Brown

bellisimo! I would love to have this coat (the one that I have now is sooo old…)
Thanks!
Mixolidia on May 20, 2015 12:19
I like all the posts, my favorite space was Liesl until I saw the velvet purple couch & floor to ceiling windows in Sarai’s space. And I would love the Lady Grey, I’ve been ogling it for months. To afraid to try a coat.
CrazyVet on May 20, 2015 12:19
That’s so generous!
My dream sewing room would be a near copy of Liesl’s, it’s organized just as I would, with specific areas for different tasks and good organization of books and materials.
Julie Robertson on May 20, 2015 12:19
Wow, so many great ideas to use in my home studio! But I have to say I’m gaga over the view that is to be had over at Collette’s.
PrutsPrinses on May 20, 2015 12:19
I really like Gabriella’s space, the blue walls!!! And her sewing machine is cute and her boxes are nice…
But most of all I would want Liesl’s bookshelf! What a wonderful collection!
Sarah AJ on May 20, 2015 12:19
I adore Liesl’s space! Very jealous of her shelving.
Paula on May 20, 2015 12:19
Oh, adore the sew-along and I’m waiting ancsiously for the fabulous jackets to be finished. I would love to make the coat for the Finish spring… when the environment is greay and soggy it is nice to have something so classy on.
Colette herself has the sewing space I’m the most envious of. That sofa and the view…
Forrest Nicole on May 20, 2015 12:19
I adore Sarai’s space. What an amazing couch!
starjumper on May 20, 2015 12:19
i think that this is an awesome series! the space that you sew in is a very important part of your process, and by extension, your end product, but we almost never ever see them! i just can’t stop staring at that pink/purple chair! and i really love the adjustable table, i’m thinking i might have to invest in one of those! but it’s also comforting and inspiring to see other people (like me) that don’t exactly have their very own space and are making do (very well!) without it.
Carla Charters on May 20, 2015 12:19
I dream of the day when I will have my own sewing space. I am sure my projects would look 10x better, right? :) Well, maybe not but one can dream. The coat is beautiful as is everything you do.
Brenda Cantrell on May 20, 2015 12:19
Oh wow, I would love to have The Lady Grey pattern! I’ve been drooling over that one forever! Fall just got here in GA so I’m in the mood to make a coat..a fabulous one!
I can only wish, wish, wish my sewing space was as uncluttered Sarai’s. Wonder where I can get my own purple couch??? All my antique patterns are in plastic storage bins, I really like the file boxes she used. Easier to stack!
Thank you for a great giveaway! I’ve enjoyed reading all the posts. :)

I’ve been wanting this pattern for a long time, and every time I see it on someone’s blog, it nudges me that much closer to actually buying it!
Elizabeth on May 20, 2015 12:19
Fabulous topic! It’s always interesting to see how creative people organize everything. Gertie’s interview was my favorite – very funny :) I need to haul my behind to the store for a new iron!

These sewing space “reveals” are an inspiration!
ElisaBetsy on May 20, 2015 12:19
Oh how I’d long to have a sewing space, like Elle of It’s A Sewing Life’s full basement sewing area! Not conducive to NYC apt living where my dress form doubles as a coat rack, fabric is in a suitcase under the bed…sigh!
Holly on May 20, 2015 12:19
Hello!
A chance!
SewLindaAnn on May 20, 2015 12:19
I’m all over the purple couch. Looks like a great place to curl up with some hand stitching or dream of projects with a hot cup of tea.
Becky on May 20, 2015 12:19
I have been meaning to snap this one up!
My favorite sewing space is the dream studio set-up in IKEA : )
Lynne on May 20, 2015 12:19
I absolutely adore the sewing spaces at Oliver + S. I think it’s fabulous how the airy space and the exposed brick walls coexist beautifully… How everything is arranged by color! And the flow of everything! It seems the ideal studio to get things done.
Silverspoonchic.blogspot.com on May 20, 2015 12:19
I love this pattern to death! I can already think of a thousand different colors I would like to see it in! I think if I had the space I would have a sewing room that was a mixture of Gertie’s and Collete’s. Ahh, but it is only a dream….
Marie-Christine on May 20, 2015 12:19
Love Sarai’s space, I’m a total sucker for natural light. And the purple velvet couch makes it sooo civilized, of course one needs a good interviewing spot in a sewing studio, no?
That said, I’ve been trying to resist the urge to make a Lady Grey (I need pants..), but might not last much longer :-).
Kristin on May 20, 2015 12:19
LIsel’s is amazing!
Linda on May 20, 2015 12:19
I love Sarai’s space and her patterns!
Stephenie on May 20, 2015 12:19
Gertie’s table, for sure…I still cut on the floor! my poor aching back is clamoring for countertop height tables…
elsie on May 20, 2015 12:19
Seeing other people’s spaces is inspirational, but wow. It makes me covet…. Perhaps I will be satisfied with a pattern instead of a total sewing room makeover? Perhaps.
